Don't Postpone Yourself

May 22, 2010...

Does the answer "Tomorrow" really cut it?

Do you really think your life will be easier and all the challenges that currently cement your feet to the ground will be eliminated...tomorrow?

"I'll look for a new job...tomorrow"

"I'll start saving month."

"I'll apply to year." year? They all give "never" a fresh breath.

"Choice" Awareness

May 21, 2010...

Choices. They surround us every day.

The Story of TWO people...

May 20, 2010...

Person #1: Throws out 5-6 resumes a week hoping to land a job. No interviews.

"It's too discouraging to keep applying. I need to wait 'till people start hiring."

Person #2: Submits 20-25 resumes a week. Almost all come back with the same answer: "We're sorry..."  An interview here and there pokes up.

"Sure the 'Not Interested' responses sting...but I have to keep giving someone a chance to say 'Yes!'...right?"

Surprise Magic

May 19, 2010...

Don't you love surprises?

I sure do.

I especially love them during those times when wheels are spinning fast, but no traction is being gained. It's the piece of good news that finally arrives. It's the new door opening. It's the phone call that you were just hoping would come.

Surprises can come in all sorts of forms, but they always add positive energy to a day and a week. They are almost magical in their power to give us renewed life.

Deep-Sea Goal Fishermen

May 18, 2010...

Sometimes...heck, often times...things just don't go as we'd like.

The new job isn't what was expected. The revised marketing plan falls flat. The once-promising relationship grows cold.

Learn and Practice

May 17, 2010...

Think of something you're good at doing.

No. Erase that.

Think of something you're GREAT at doing. (If "great" is possible..."good" just seems so darn mediocre, doesn't it?)

It could be dancing. Or cooking. Or singing. It could be selling, writing or being a parent. It could be shooting free throws, working crossword puzzles, or cheering on your friends.

Find your "something." What is it?

C'mon...really...what is it?

Appreciating Routine

May 16, 2010...

Some people are not exceptionally fond of routine. I must admit, I am guilty of falling into that category. However, there comes a time when even those of us who dislike routine need to appreciate its value.

Routine has value?

You bet it does!

Routine's greatest benefit is that it helps us avoid chaos. It can set life in order. It can slow negative momentum. It can raise personal awareness.

How do I define routine?

Write a Happy Ending...

May 15, 2010...

Today, I heard a story of another person losing her job. Although what I felt upon hearing the news was deep compassion and frustration, I know it wasn't 1/10 of the pain this person was feeling.

I only heard the story. She is living it.

Unfortunately, there are thousands...tens of thousands...hundreds of thousands...millions...of stories over the last year which are generating the same sort of feeling. Perhaps your story is one of them.

If your story is one of them, hang in there.

"Stinking thinking"

May 14, 2010...

Zig Ziglar is one of my all-time favorite motivational speakers and writers. His motivational footprints are no doubt permanently tattooed in the minds of hundreds of thousands of readers and audience members around the world.

Two of my favorite "Zig-isms" are:

"Get rid of stinkin' thinkin'" and "Give yourself a check-up...from the neck-up."

I love them both.

Let Gravity Go!

May 13, 2010...

One of the early Laws of Science we all learn as a kid is the concept of "gravity"

See how high in the air you can throw the ball up...before it falls back down. Jump off the swing set...and tumble as you land harder than expected. Perhaps you have memories of your own early gravity tests.

Gravity is the main mover and shaper of the universe. It causes the planets to move in orbit around the sun. It causes our feet to stay firmly planted on the ground so we don't float away into space.
